Ingredients:
- Toor Dal - 1 1/2 Cup
- Tomatoes - 2 Cups(chopped)
- Tamarind - Half the size of small Lemon
- Green Chillies - 4(slits)
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4th Tea Spoon
- Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 Tea Spoon
- Cilantro - 2 Table Spoons
- Water - 2 1/2 Cup
- Salt - To Taste
For Tempering:
- Cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tea Spoon
- Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tea Spoon
- Garlic Cloves - 4
- Red Chillies - 2
- Oil - 2 Table Spoons
Procedure:
- Wash the dal and soak it for 10 minutes before cooking
- Soak the tamarind with 1/2 cup water and extract the juice from it
- Take a pressure cooker on a medium flame and add soaked toor dal to it
- To it add Turmeric powder, Tomatoes, Tamarind juice, Green chillies, Red chilli Powder, Cilantro
- Mix everything
- Close the pressure cooker and cook it for three whistles
- After 3 whistles switch off the flame and allow the cooker to cool down
- Open the lid and add salt according to the taste and using a masher mash the dal.
- For Tempering: Take a bowl on medium flame.Add oil and allow it to heat
- Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies and chopped garlic
- Wait till mustard and cumin seeds sputter and then switch off the flame and add this tadka to the dal.
- Tomato dal is ready
- Serve it with Hot rice and enjoy it!!
