Tomato Dal

Tomato Dal/Tomato Pappu is one of the most commonly cooked dal in India Specially in South India. This Dal goes excellent with Hot Rice and ghee Having any Fry curry as a side dish and some fryums included will make a great simple but delicious meal altogether.



Lets seee the ingredients and procedure to make ...

Ingredients:

  • Toor Dal - 1 1/2 Cup
  • Tomatoes - 2 Cups(chopped)
  • Tamarind - Half the size of small Lemon
  • Green Chillies - 4(slits)
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4th Tea Spoon
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 Tea Spoon
  • Cilantro - 2 Table Spoons
  • Water - 2 1/2 Cup
  • Salt - To Taste
For Tempering:
  • Cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tea Spoon
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tea Spoon
  • Garlic Cloves - 4
  • Red Chillies - 2
  • Oil - 2 Table Spoons
Procedure:
  • Wash the dal and soak it for 10 minutes before cooking
  • Soak the tamarind with 1/2 cup water and extract the juice from it
  • Take a pressure cooker on a medium flame and add soaked toor dal to it
  • To it add Turmeric powder, Tomatoes, Tamarind juice, Green chillies, Red chilli Powder, Cilantro
  • Mix everything
  • Close the pressure cooker and cook it for three whistles
  • After 3 whistles switch off the flame and allow the cooker to cool down
  • Open the lid and add salt according to the taste and using a masher mash the dal.
  • For Tempering: Take a bowl on medium flame.Add oil and allow it to heat
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies and chopped garlic 
  • Wait till mustard and cumin seeds sputter and then switch off the flame and add this tadka to the dal.
  • Tomato dal is ready
  • Serve it with Hot rice and enjoy it!!

Mix Veg Dal Kichidi

Mix veg dal kichidi is a very simple and easy dish to make. This can be prepared for lunch or dinner and enjoy it with your favourite pickle.



This one pot dish is not only simple and less time consuming to make but it has lot of health benefits. Since it has lots of vegetables, moondal and desi ghee it just tastes too good.

Ingredients:

  • Rice - 2Cups
  • Moong Dal - 3/4th Cup
  • Ghee - 2 Table Spoon
  • Cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tea Spoon
  • Green Chillies - 3-4 (Finely Chopped)
  • Onions - 3/4th Cup (Chopped)
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1/2 Tea Spoon
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4th Tea Spoon
  • Beans - 1/2 Cup (Chopped)
  • Carrots - 1/2 Cup (Chopped)
  • Peas - 1/4th Cup 
  • Sweet Corn - 1/4th Cup 
  • Cilantro/Corriander Leaves - 2 Table Spoons
  • Water - 9 Cups used (Adjust water according to your desired Consistency)
  • Salt - To Taste
Procedure:

  • Soak Rice and Moong dal for 1/2 an Hour
  • Take a pressure cooker and heat it on medium to high flame
  • Add ghee and let it melt
  • Then add cumin seeds, Green chillies
  • Add chopped onions and cook till onions are soft and transparent
  • Now add ginger garlic paste and turmeric powder and cook till its raw smell is gone
  • Add all the chopped vegetables
  • Mix Everthing and cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Now add soaked rice and moongdal and mix together
  • Add salt to taste and then add water
  • Close the cooker lid and allow it to cook for 4 Whistles
  • After 4 whistles switch off the flame and let it cool down
  • Mix veg dal kichidi is ready to taste
  • Garnish it with chopped cilantro and serve hot!!
